Scotland’s Winter Mountains with one axe is a book for anyone who loves the Scottish mountains. It will take you into the deep Torridonian gullies of the Northwest, along the narrow ridges of Skye’s Cullin and across the high arctic plateau of the Northern Cairngorms. Each journey is described in detail along with some background information on the local hills. Although not an instructional book, there is some basic advice about the skills, clothing and safety equipment needed for a day out in the winter mountains.
The book has its own maps, which are super accurate and to scale. The route descriptions are also easy to follow on both 1:50,000 Ordnance Survey Maps and Harvey’s Mountain Maps. Grid references are supplied for all important navigational points. All the book’s images have that vital human perspective; none were taken using a drone.
