Scotland’s Winter Mountains – one axe journeysIt’s only a working title but it’s the favourite so far. All the material and images have been collected over the past four winters. Enough information to put together a nice guide to some of the best winter mountaineering journeys in Scotland. The book will take you through these wonderful mountain journeys from the comfort of your favourite chair or wherever you happen to be sitting.
Also included will be some handy tips on how to be aware of the dangers posed by Scotland’s unique snow conditions. The book will also highlight all the practical skills you should have before questing out into Scotland’s winter mountains in the pure and traditional ‘one axe’ style.
As for the routes within the guide, there’ll be detailed descriptions (and some fine photographs) of the well-known winter classics such as the traverse of An Teallach, Ledge Route on the Ben Nevis, the Aonach Eagach Ridge and the Black Spout on Lochnagar. Some of the not so well-known schizzles included are Morrisons Gully on Beinn Eighe, Academy Ridge on Sgorr Ruadh, Summit Gully on Stob Coire nam Beith and the magnificent Deep South Gully on Beinn Alligin.
The aim is to have to book on the shelves (and of course for sale on this website) well before the winter of 2017/18. The publicaton target is early October.
If you’d like to be kept informed about the book’s progress and notified when it is about to go on sale, go to the contact page and send an enquiry with ‘winter book’ as the subject (just leave the message field blank). You’ll get an email when the book’s in its final stages with a sample PDF of one of the route descriptons. You’ll also get the nod when it’s on its way to the printers. There’ll be the opportunity to pre-order if you like. It will make a great present for anyone who loves Scotland’s mountains.
